This large
mirror frame came to me ready for refinishing (picture at left).
I began by
applying rich raw sienna tone to the whole surface. My next
step was to outline the interior round moulding in
black-toned shellac. After that, I applied 23-carat gold
leaf to the central floral motif and the innermost moulding.
To suggest age, I then applied an umber glaze to the entire
surface and lightle distressed the black and gilded surfaces.
The piece was then finished with a good application of paste wax.
