Woodgrained Mantelpiece

Like marbling, woodgraining -- the simulation
of a natural material with paint -- is a very ancient craft,
examples of which date back to ancient Egypt.
Woodgraining has a number of uses.
In this instance, I used the technique to give a plain pine
mantelpiece the rich appearance of mahogany.
